Now that I am a grandmother I hope that I can pass it on. Not much luck so far though, because they love to be on their tech devices and when I suggest it there is not much interest. One granddaughter just wanted to chain and nothing else. She made a chain that reached from her bedroom, down the hall, down the stairs, through the front entry, around the corner and through the living room to the furthest corner! I don't think I have ever seen a chain that long!
The younger granddaughter had a little more interest, and made a chain that was a few feet long, but she did start a 6" square with the basic single crochet stitch for a few rows. It got lost somehow in our move from Calgary to Lethbridge, and she has lost some of her interest in it. I am still hopeful however.
I was surprised when with a little encouragement from my daughter, my grandson thought he would try it.
This is his first attempt.
He even wanted to try crocheting in the round, as he heard my daughter and I talking about it. He did an incredible job for his second attempt and first project!
We use it to put hot dishes on the table. He is so proud of it. He has not expressed any interest in doing any more crocheting, but I am proud that he tried and did such a great job on this hot pad. I hope these skills do not disappear in our society, like learning handwriting in schools has.
So pass on your skills!
